The course will provide a framework for understanding the background and development of significant legal and policy decisions affecting the environment both in the United States and abroad. Participants will gain an understanding of the justifications for environmental protection, the core features of US and some international environmental laws and regulations, recent developments in regulatory policy-making, alternatives to the prevailing system, the roles of key stakeholders, and the complexities of extending regulation into the international arena. The course will also examine few issues in detail, including chemicals regulation and key aspects of climate change.
